Welcome 2018 in Style!

December 26, 2017 by yordanos 2 Comments

Wow, this year has flown by extremely quickly and New Year’s Eve is around the corner! It’s easy to get so consumed with Christmas preparations that you forget to put together what is both your last outfit of 2017 and first outfit of 2018. Outside of birthdays, this is probably one of the most photographed days of the year and therefore, what we wear is so important! I’ve put together a variety of budget-friendly pieces from shops that offer both online and in-store options (no one likes expedited shipping fees!) so you can stop worrying about your NYE look and focus on setting your goals for the year 🙂 or, practice executing the perfect selfie angle.

STATEMENT DRESSES

I love dresses for the simple fact that they are a one and done deal with no worries of how to style it with additional pieces.

  • This green off the shoulder sequin dress is both festive and flirty with a sweetheart neckline. ($44.90)
  • A metallic silver long sleeve sequin dress is a show stopper that will look great with sheer black tights and there is no need for accessories. A sleek bun or ponytail is all that’s needed to complete this look. ($54.90)
  • If you’re attending a more formal event, this long sleeve green velvet knee length dress offers a classy yet flirty look with a low v-cut back. A chunky gold necklace or statement earrings are the perfect finishing touch. ($59.99)
  • This feathered dress is on the pricier side, but it is so adorable, I could not not share with you guys. (sale price of $227.01)

FESTIVE TOPS & BOTTOMS

If you’re not into dresses for NYE, no worries. Metallics, sparkles, and patterns can upgrade any top or bottom to an #instagramworthy look. My general rule of thumb is if I’m wearing a loud statement-making top, I’ll counter it with a simple bottom (or vice versa). And my go-to bottoms are typically a faux leather skirt or pants just because they’re easy to style and easy to clean should someone spill on you. With that being said, I also love mixing textures and patterns so if you feel comfortable and there is a flow of the pieces, by all means, go for it!

  • This metallic crop top ($28.00) has a sexy deep v plunge and bell sleeves. For a simple look, pair it with high waisted faux leather pants or skirt or build on the look with white bottoms. If you want to go all out, this does have matching high-low flared bottoms.
  • I absolutely love this metallic sequin bell sleeve top ($38.00)that comes in green and rose gold. I would let this top steal the show and pair it with a leather skirt (on sale for $19.99), tights and over-the-knee boots ($44.99).
  • This semi-sheer black ruffled blouse ($29.99) can be kept simple with high-waisted black jeans or add some metallic to the look with these gunmetal faux leather skinnies ($17.90). It would also look great with a patent leather red skirt ($24.99), fishnet tights and black booties.
  • I appreciate the flexibility of this cropped sequin sweater (on major sale for $39.99) because it can be worn for a chill night in jeans at home with your beau or the family but it can also be dressed up with this shimmering silver metallic skirt (on sale for $17.99).
  • This fringed top (on major sale for $39.99) is so fun and fabulous!

  • Silver or black glittery pants ($12.99) are festive and fun. I have these bottoms in gold and wore them with a white draped blouse for the day and a black low scoop bodysuit for the night. (There are photos below)
  • Not into glitter? These silver metallic pants ($24.99) will keep you festive without the sparkle.
  • This multi-textured skirt (sale price, $39.99) is so artistic. The blue, green and black sequins mesh together so well and the fringe really brings the whole piece together. A simple black top with exaggerated sleeves or a super low plunge is perfect.

SHOW STOPPIN’ SHOES

If you like to keep your whole look simple, make a statement with your accessories. And yes, this includes your shoes. Check out some of my favorite picks below from Agaci. Use their discount code SANTA30 for 30% off everything.

  • Metallic gold or fuchsia sequin platforms ($32.90)
  • Metallic gold or wine sequin pump ($26.90)
  • Rose gold or silver beaded open toe heeled sandal ($32.90)

FAUX FUR FLARE

Faux fur has made a huge statement this season and I am all here for it. Adding a faux fur jacket or stole to your look will make for epic photo ops and even though it’s not real fur, will also make you feel like a VIP. Not to mention, it will also keep you warm if that even matters. With the major after Christmas sale going on at Zara, you may be able to snag a premium faux fur jacket or accessory at a decent price point. The sale is online and in stores so don’t wait too late to take advantage!

  • Oversized jacket in cream ($44.90)
  • Jacket in white/orange ($47.90)
  • Faux fur scarf in green or black ($17.90)
  • Perfect for NYE: a faux fur keychain that is also a power charger for your phone! ($12.90)

Helpful Style Tips:

  • While a faux fur jacket is a great addition to a look, don’t let it be your look. Some venues require you to coat check when it comes to big nights like NYE and you want your look to be complete without it.
  • Accessories are your best friend. While you don’t want to over-accessorize, NYE is a great time to wear that chunky necklace or long fringed,  patterned and jeweled earrings to bring a simple look to the next level.
  • Maintain a balance between your outfit, accessories, and makeup. It might be NYE, but there are still limits. Pick your focus – whether it is heavy accessories, heavy makeup or a loud outfit. You should stay away from hitting all three.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. This is an evening of late night dancing and drinking so shoes are extremely important. All shoes I linked above have decent sized heels and the platforms offer extra stability. I definitely recommend walking around in a new pair of shoes to break them in and make sure there aren’t any surprises later.
  • If you’re going to be at a highly populated venue and don’t have an area to sit, you may want to stick to closed toe shoes. Getting your toes stepped on throughout the night is not fun and it will ruin your pedicure, *tear*

New Year’s celebrations are always fun to look forward to. Wishing you a safe and great night that starts a new year with positive vibes!

Bella is so obsessed with my Dyson but also runs a Bella is so obsessed with my Dyson but also runs away from it so it always turns into a fun little game as I’m vacuuming. It wasn’t long until she started using things around the house to pretend to vacuum herself (swipe for vid) and it was so cute. Then we learned about the mini @dyson vacuum for kids and I just knew she would love it. And she definitely does. I love it!

One thing that really blew my mind was realizing just how much our children learn from us even in moments when we don’t think they are watching or paying us any attention. As Bella would vacuum around the house these last few days, I’ve observed so many things that she’s mirrored from my “vacuuming style.” It’s almost scary! Definitely helps put into perspective how important it is for us to be good role models to our babies and that our actions follow what we are teaching them. I am definitely more than happy to show her vacuuming can be fun.. especially with our awesome matching Dysons. I’m so excited for her to enjoy cleaning 😭🤗 #HappyMom #HappyMoments

But I am grateful I still got to do as much decorating as I have. Hopefully her little sis follows in her footsteps 🤍 Also, who is in charge of sports on major holidays? Major eye-roll to you. At least Bella enjoys it though. 😂 #MerryChristmas #Christmas2020!

Our holiday looked a little different this year an Our holiday looked a little different this year and while we are sad we didn’t get to spend it with our family, I can’t help but see the beauty in what we did get to experience out of it. I’m thankful we have the opportunity to spend this time with Bella and making memories before we become a family of 4! Not to mention, it was nice to not have to worry about getting a toddler on a flight and dealing with time zone changes and a shift in her schedule.

It was the perfect day (mainly because I didn’t cook a single thing 😜 major kudos to @ishowboat). Bella enjoyed so many yummy foods for the first time and I loved our little table set up. I was up super late with my siblings catching up over FaceTime well into the night and it was the best way to end the day. 🤍
Today is monumental in so many ways. This is the w Today is monumental in so many ways. This is the win that America needed. Voting was never in question for my household and that is because we truly believe our vote does matter. It matters for the sake of this country and it matters for our children (wow, that’s weird to say 😅). While it was certainly too close for my comfort considering this election was focused on BASIC human rights, I am thankful for the Americans that put the country first.

I am looking forward to seeing this country led by competent, servant leaders. On a personal level, my heart is exploding in joy that I will be raising two Black daughters with a Black (and Indian) female Vice-President! We still have a long way to go - and we will hold them both accountable in these next 4 years - but this is one hell of a step in the right direction.

Frankie has been a natural at being an awesome #GirlDad and I cannot wait to see his love grow even bigger for our second. I am SO excited for Bella to have a little sister to play with. I’m already looking years ahead to them sharing a room and wearing matching outfits 🤗

Despite the obvious setbacks, we had such a great Halloween! Our neighbors showed out for the kids with super creative ways to keep the celebrations fun, festive and safe! I’m glad we still got dressed up as a family and went out. 💀 #Halloween2020

I can’t believe it’s been a full week with a o I can’t believe it’s been a full week with a one year old! Before I became a mom, I did not understand the value of month to month milestones but I have definitely learned to appreciate the growth and major changes that happen even within a 24 hour period. Already Bella has truly grown into a mini human 😂 Her gibberish is sounding more like words. Her responses - words and mannerisms - are perfect for our ‘conversations.’ And now shes... RUNNING! She’s even singing along to our musical books and her name song that her dad made up (it’s actually the sweetest!) 😭 It’s insane.

I’m so proud of my girl but I’m also so sad she’s growing so quickly. Whew! I am quickly learning motherhood is a forever battle between wanting your child to be independent while also depending on you. haha I’m really loving this season we’re in and I’m looking forward to Isabella’s continued growth! #GirlMom #12monthsold #1yearold #ToddlerLife
TWELVE MONTHS Wow. How are we already celebrating TWELVE MONTHS Wow. How are we already celebrating a full year of life? Everyday of the past 365 days have been the most incredible moments of my life - moments filled with challenges, joys, tears of happiness and sadness. But most importantly, moments with you my sweet Isabella.

This month you've continued to sing your ABC's as if it's the only song in the world, talk with so much passion, dance to any beat you hear and walk like there's no tomorrow. And now you're climbing anything you can, including your daddy. lol

I love your curiosity, your fearlessness and your excitement as you explore the world around you. Thank you for your sweet cuddles and contagious giggles.

Because of you, I've learned to celebrate all achievements in life because no matter how small, together they yield impactful results.

Thank you for being mine, Isabella Fiori. #IsabellaGrows #IsabellaFiori #BirthdayBabe #IsabellaTurnsOne
We’re parents of a one year old! Whoa! While so We’re parents of a one year old! Whoa! While so much has happened and I often find myself wondering how we’re still in 2020, our year with Bella has gone by so quickly. When people tell you time moves fast when it comes to your little one, believe them! It’s not just saying.

I’ve been asked how I feel and in this moment I’m incredibly proud of how much Isabella has grown and how her confidence and personality are just booming! But I’m just as emotional thinking about her growing into her own person and no longer “needing” me. She’s already let go of my hand to walk on her own and that in itself was one hell of a whirlwind of emotions 😂

I’m just so thankful. So grateful for Bella and blessed to have Frankie by my side on this journey. Even with the challenges of parenthood / motherhood, I wear this badge with so much honor and do not take this role for granted. Cheers to celebrating 365 days with our greatest gift and looking forward to so many more over-the-top celebrations to make sure my little Leo diva knows she is the bestest. 🤍🥰🎂 #IsabellaTurnsOne
ELEVEN MONTHS I am extremely last posting this mo ELEVEN MONTHS I am extremely last posting this monthly photo because this month was actually kind of emotional for me. My baby girl is really growing up. It was so fun practicing walking with Bella - holding her hands the entire time. And now she is walking sooo fast and talking up a storm. Her personality is coming in so strong and I love every part of it.

Being home to witness so many major developments rather than hear them from her daycare has been a blessing. She gets excited to say, "Hi" and "Bye" while waving. She touches the screen as a way to touch the faces of family members as we're face timing with them (which makes my heart melt and also makes me kind of sad at the same time; damn distance!). Her laugh is contagious and she now has 6 teeth! I am one blessed mama to have this sweet child in my life.

Because of you, I understand why the biggest joys in life come family.

Thank you for being mine, Isabella Fiori. #IsabellaGrows #IsabellaFiori ♡
Every now and then I miss my pregnancy belly. I’ Every now and then I miss my pregnancy belly. I’ve always thought that was so weird but after I reflected on a conversation I had with my cousin the other night I realized it’s more than just the belly for me. I think part of me misses who I was during my pregnancy.

When I think back on when I was pregnant, I feel like I had so much purpose - I mean, I was creating life.. I don’t think it gets more purposeful than that! But even through my pregnancy journey I remained super active, I continued to travel, I went out to the clubs (no joke, I was 9 months pregnant at the club 😭), I interviewed for jobs and made a switch right before Bella’s arrival, I was eating right, my pregnancy was damn near perfect, my hair was shiny and everyone around me really made me feel like super woman. It felt great. I felt great. I loved the happy woman that I was. Even my postpartum recovery was amazing. But when I made the transition from maternity leave back to real life, it was like I hit a brick wall.

Sure, my body bounced back and I appreciated the kind comments, but I was drowning inside. Drowning. Constantly thinking about my baby girl while trying to stay on top of things with a new role at a new company and trying to retain so much shit while pumping in-between was a recipe for disaster. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so low about myself and these thoughts have continued to remain in my mind. I suck at being a mom, I suck at being a wife and I suck at being an employee. I even suck at doing my makeup now that we’ve been trapped in the house for so long 😩

My confidence has slowly been chipped at over these past several months and at this point I just feel so blah. The blurred lines of working at home during COVID while also attempting to navigate each day as if there aren't people that look like me being killed or targeted because they are black is emotionally draining.

Happy Birthday @ishowboat ! Choosing to be present Happy Birthday @ishowboat ! Choosing to be present in your role as a husband and a father is one of the many reasons I love you so much. Thank you for being so loving and such a positive light for both Bella and myself. Your smile is as infectious as your attitude and I aspire to be more like you everyday in how you approach life and any challenges that come your way.

I know quarantine didn’t make for the best birthday, so we’ll definitely need to make this one up ☺️ Me and Bella love you so much. 🤍 #HappyBirthday 🎈
